All major credit cards are widely accepted in Singapore and ATMs are widespread. Nonetheless it is always good idea to take cash and travelers’ cheques for daily expenses. Moneychangers in shopping centres are all over Singapore making it easy to exchange Singapore dollars.


Tipping is not usual in Singapore and the attendants at hotels and restaurants are not expecting tips for standard services. Some taxi drivers may use the international phrase of “No Change” to solicit extras but you can always ask him to wait while you go around looking for small change.


Singapore is surrounded by countries with lower standard of living. This means that Singapore is more expensive than the neighbouring countries for food and accommodations.
